Marek Gróbarczyk, Minister of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation, along with a delegation of representatives of the Ministry, representatives of maritime offices and the Permanent Representation to the IMO, took part in the 30th plenary session of the General Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO 30 Assembly), held in London on November 27 - December 6, 2017.
On the forum of the Assembly, Minister Marek Gróbarczyk gave a speech in which he invited the participants to the World Maritime Day Parallel Event that will take place on June 13-15, 2018 in Szczecin, Poland.
The Minister informed about the purposes for which the ministry was established, including the role of the maritime economy in the sustainable development of the country. He emphasised Poland's activity on the international forum and tasks performed within the IMO, in particular in the field of the safety of navigation, the protection of the marine environment, and maritime education.
He also drew attention to the economic development related to the development of Polish shipyards, ports and inland waterway transport as well as the area of fishing. The objectives achieved are in line with the standards and the adopted objectives of the sustainable development of transport, the safety of navigation, the protection of the marine environment developed under the IMO..
Marek Gróbarczyk met with Kitack Limem, Secretary-General of the IMO. It was a bilateral meeting between the Secretary and the Polish delegation during which Poland's involvement in the IMO forum and preparations for the celebration of the World Maritime Day Parallel Event in Szczecin were discussed.
